Contractor Marketing in Austin, Trade by Trade
Austin is home base for Tech Bros Media, and it's a different market than it was a few years ago. The metro keeps growing, but single-family building permits fell about 39% from 2021 to 2025 (Census permits via FRED).
That shifts where the work is. This page is the hub for every trade we market in Austin, plus the local rules and trends that shape how Austin homeowners hire.
Where Austin Contractor Work Is Heading
The Austin metro reached about 2.62 million people in 2025, up nearly 54,000 in a year (US Census via FRED), and the city itself passed one million residents (City of Austin). Growth is spreading outward: Hays, Bastrop and Caldwell counties have each grown by roughly a fifth or more since 2020 (US Census via FRED).
Building has not kept pace. Single-family permits went from about 24,500 in 2021 to about 15,000 in 2025, and analysts at Zonda called Austin "significantly oversupplied" with new-home lots (Spectrum News). Our read: in Austin right now, more of the money is in existing homes. Remodels, additions, repairs and replacements.
Austin Rules Homeowners Ask About
Austin's HOME amendments now allow up to three housing units, including tiny homes, on most single-family lots, and one home on lots as small as 1,800 square feet (City of Austin). That raises a question homeowners now bring to builders and remodelers: can we add a unit out back? Contractors who explain the rules clearly are the ones who get that call. See also custom home builders.
The tree ordinance comes up constantly too. A tree 19 inches or more in diameter is protected and needs a permit to remove, and heritage trees of listed species at 24 inches or more get even more protection (City of Austin). That's a question tree service companies, builders and hardscapers all field.
A Texas Advertising Rule Many Contractor Websites Miss
Texas requires HVAC companies to put a license number in their ads: "All advertising by air conditioning and refrigeration contracting companies designed to solicit air conditioning or refrigeration business must include the affiliated licensee's license number" (16 TAC §75.71). Electrical contractors have a matching rule that covers business cards too (16 TAC §73.51), and TDLR treats violations as a Class A offense (TDLR).
We make sure the HVAC and electrical sites and ads we build include it. Roofers, home builders and remodelers are the opposite case: Texas doesn't license them at the state level (Dallas Morning News via Quorum Report), so reviews, insurance and real project photos carry more of the trust.
Find Your Trade
Every trade searches differently. Pick yours:
- Inside the home: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, generator installation, spray foam insulation and pest control.
- Structure and exterior: roofing, foundation repair, concrete, masonry, garage doors and fencing.
- Outdoor living and land: decks, hardscaping, tree service, excavation and septic.
- Building and finishing: remodeling, custom home building, flooring, epoxy flooring and restoration.
- Selling B2B: industrial companies.
Working With an Austin Agency
Being local helps with Austin's weather swings. The February 2023 ice storm cut power to about 30% of Austin Energy customers at one point and damaged an estimated 10.5 million trees, according to the city and county's after-action report (FOX 7). Our weather aggregation tools adjust ad spend automatically when conditions like that hit.
